SpectraWatt Inc., a maker of PV cells for solar manufacturers, has been formed as an independent spinout from Intel Corp. It also has received $50 million in funding commitments led by Intel Capital.

SAN JOSE, Calif.----Aicent, Inc. , announced today that it has received funding from Intel Capital, the global investment arm of Intel Corporation. This investment will be used to accelerate Aicent’s 3G and 4G global data roaming initiatives including mobile WiMAX which Juniper Research predicted in December 2007 will surpass 80 million subscribers by 2013.

SAN FRANCISCO----Intel Capital, Intel's global investment organization, kicked off its ninth annual Intel Capital CEO Summit today with the announcement of eight investments totaling over $60 million.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.----In the continuing effort to develop electricity from renewable energy cheaper than from coal, Google , through its philanthropic arm Google.org, announced $10.25 million in investments in a breakthrough energy technology called Enhanced Geothermal Systems .

has opened a formal antitrust investigation of semiconductor
maker Intel Corp for anti-competitive conduct, Intel
and the FTC said on Thursday.

SANTA CLARA, Calif.----3Leaf Systems™ , a provider of next-generation virtualization solutions for enterprise data centers, today announced that it has secured new financing from a suite of blue-chip investors led by LSI Corporation with follow on investments by Alloy Ventures, Enterprise Partners Venture Capital, Intel Capital, and Storm Ventures. 3Leaf Systems will use the new capital to accelerate development of the company's virtualization solutions and to expand sales and marketing activities.

Voltaix, a maker of materials that enhance the performance of semiconductor chips and solar cells, has raised $12.5 million from Intel Capital. Voltiax has facilities in Branchburg, N.J.

Intel beat the street's estimates:

(Dow Jones) Intel Corp.'s (INTC) third-quarter net income grew 12% on higher sales and margins as the technology bellwether's results met Wall Street's expectations and its revenue view for the fourth quarter - traditionally the busiest for electronics makers - brackets analysts' estimate.

The company said, "Current uncertainty in global economic conditions makes it particularly difficult to predict product demand and other related matters and makes it more likely that Intel's actual results could differ materially from expectations."
